Nirvāṇa (/nɪərˈvɑːnə/ neer-VAH-nə, /-ˈvænə/ -VAN-ə, /nɜːr-/ nur-; Sanskrit: निर्वाण nirvāṇa [nɪɽʋaːɳɐ]; Pali: nibbāna; Prakrit: ṇivvāṇa, literally "blown out", as in an oil lamp) is a concept in Indian religions (Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism) that represents the ultimate state of soteriological release, the liberation from repeated rebirth in saṃsāra. Founded by lead singer-songwriter and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Vimoksha means release from the bonds of earthly desires, delusion, suffering and transmigration.
